Stop surprise border bills on your Etsy orders
Buyers who get a bill at the door blame the shop, and it shows in reviews. The direct Etsy connection is waiting for Etsy's approval. You can already see what your past orders cost at the door, and check new ones from a spreadsheet or your order emails.

The direct Etsy connection is waiting for Etsy's approval. Everything on this page except that connection works today.

What you get
Built for Etsy stores
Free audit on your Etsy file
Which orders owed something at the door, by product and by province or state, and what three changes would have saved. Names and addresses never leave your computer.
Order emails work today
Forward Etsy's order emails to your Othermile address and each order is read and checked, with no connection needed.
Handmade still crosses a border
A piece made in the US or Canada can often cross without duty, but tax and courier fees still apply. Othermile shows both.
Tariff alerts
Watch the products you sell and get an email when a tariff on them starts, ends or changes.
Try it on your own orders first
The free border cost audit reads your Etsy orders file and shows what your customers paid at the door, by product and by province or state. No account, and your file stays in your browser.
Guides
Border guides for Etsy sellers
Do I pay duty on a parcel from the US to Canada?
Often no duty, but often tax. It depends on the value, on mail or courier, and on where the goods were made. Here are the limits and two worked examples.
My customer refused the parcel because of the fees. What now?
A refused parcel usually comes back to you, sometimes with a return charge, or is abandoned. Here is what happens next, what to tell the customer, and how to stop it happening again.
Why did UPS or FedEx charge a fee on top of the duty?
Couriers charge their own fee for clearing a parcel through customs, separate from duty and tax. Here is what it is, why it can be bigger than the duty, and how stores avoid it.
Duty, tariffs, sales tax and brokerage: every charge at the border, explained
A parcel can carry up to five charges at the border. Who sets each one, what it is based on, who pays it, and which ones you can avoid.
Questions
Othermile and Etsy
When will the Etsy connection open?
When Etsy approves it. Until then the free audit, spreadsheet uploads and order emails cover the same checks.
Why do my buyers get charged at the door?
A parcel that owes sales tax, duty or the carrier's clearance fee is billed to the buyer on delivery unless the seller paid it. Into Canada that often happens above 40 dollars by courier or 20 dollars by mail.
Does the audit keep my file?
No. Your browser reads the file and sends only order numbers, products, quantities, prices and where each order went. Nothing is kept.
Is this customs advice?
No. Every figure is an estimate from the official rules in force, with its source and date. The carrier and customs decide the final charge.
