Questions

Good to know

Why does a 100 dollar order into Canada cost the same for every product?

A courier parcel from the US worth 150 Canadian dollars or less owes no duty in Canada, wherever the goods were made, as long as they were sold from the US. Only sales tax applies above 40 dollars. Pick a higher order value to see duties and surtaxes.

What does the chart show?

What one order of each product, at the value you pick, would owe at the border by courier: duties, tariffs, surtaxes, sales tax and the usual carrier fee. Each tariff, surtax and ban counts from the day it started to the day it ended, as the official rules record them. Into Canada it uses Ontario's tax; into the US, a shopper's parcel.

Where do the numbers come from?

Official government data: the US tariff schedule, Canada's customs tariff and surtax orders, and the Bank of Canada exchange rate. Each change is marked on the chart and explained in our border news.

Is this customs advice?

No. These are estimates for a sample order. The exact tariff code, where the goods were made, your paperwork and the carrier decide what is charged.

Can I get told when a line moves?

Yes. Free tariff alerts email you when the cost of a product you pick changes, with no account.
