Know the border cost of every Shopify order before it ships
The Othermile app checks each new order the moment it is placed. Orders that would cost your customer too much at the door, or cost you too much to ship, are held in Shopify until you approve them on your phone.

On Shopify
How it works
Add the app
Add the Othermile app to your store and approve what it may read. Tell it where you ship from and how, and your products come across with their weights and costs.
Set your limits
Choose the most a customer should pay at the door, the most you will lose on shipping and the lowest margin you accept. Leave any of them empty to skip it.
Approve from your phone
Orders inside your limits are left alone. The rest get a hold in Shopify, so nobody fulfils them by mistake, and wait for your OK with every option priced.

What you get
Built for Shopify stores
Holds that live in Shopify
A held order shows the hold in your Shopify admin. Approving it in Othermile releases the hold, and nothing else in the order changes.
Duties included shipping
Offer shipping rates at checkout that include the duty and tax, so Canadian and US customers pay once and meet no bill at the door. Your Shopify plan must include carrier calculated shipping.
The door estimate on product pages
Add the Othermile block in your theme editor and shoppers see what they may pay at the door before they buy.
Tariff codes sent back to Shopify
Confirm a tariff code and country of origin once in Othermile and send them to your Shopify products, ready for your customs forms.
Try it on your own orders first
The free border cost audit reads your Shopify orders file and shows what your customers paid at the door, by product and by province or state. No account, and your file stays in your browser.

How do I charge Canadian duties and taxes at checkout?
Collect the duty and tax with the order and ship duty paid, so your customer pays nothing at the door. Here is how it works, what it costs you, and how to price it per cart.
What your Canadian customers pay at the door, and why
Duty, sales tax and a handling fee can turn a C$45 order into a C$57 surprise. Here is what the charge is made of, why mail and courier differ so much, and four ways to stop it.
My customer refused the parcel because of the fees. What now?
A refused parcel usually comes back to you, sometimes with a return charge, or is abandoned. Here is what happens next, what to tell the customer, and how to stop it happening again.
Check landed cost on every Shopify order before it ships
Send each order to an API that prices the border and answers release, hold or block against the store limits. A working example, and the webhooks that follow.
Duty, tariffs, sales tax and brokerage: every charge at the border, explained
A parcel can carry up to five charges at the border. Who sets each one, what it is based on, who pays it, and which ones you can avoid.
Questions
Othermile and Shopify
Where do I get the Othermile app?
From the Shopify App Store. Until the listing opens, create a free Othermile account and connect your store with a webhook in Connections; every order is still checked.
Does Othermile change my checkout?
Only if you turn on duties included shipping rates. Otherwise your checkout stays exactly as it is, and Othermile checks orders after they are placed.
What happens to an order that breaks a limit?
It gets a hold in Shopify and waits for you in Othermile, where you see what each way of shipping it would cost you and your customer. Approve with your passkey and the hold is released.
How am I billed?
Through your Shopify bill, on the same plans as everyone else: free for 100 orders a month, then from 19 dollars every 30 days.
Is this customs advice?
No. Every figure is an estimate from the official rules in force, with its source and date. The carrier and customs decide the final charge.
